History
Syman's Mercantile Store was built and established by Henry Syman at what is now 3306 & 3308 Main Street across from present day Roger's Frosty. But Syman soon sold to Adam Schuman and William Price who changed the name to Price and Company.
The business flourished and the original wooden frame building was enlarged. Merchandise and goods were weighed on gold scales and stilyards, whiskey was sold by the gallon from 40 gallon barrels, bacon sold for $1.00 a pound, and flour sold for $12.00 a barrel.
In 1890 the original building was demolished and replaced with the present brick building. Mr. Price died in 1901 and by 1909 the business had discontinued. Mr. and Mrs. Bogue inherited the property and reopened the building again for business in the 1930's.
The store closed for approximately 20 years. Mr. & Mrs. Bogue established a grocery and grain business and later during the 1940's the Dunlap brothers of Anderson took over their business. They left after after a short time and a Mr. Myers began operating the business. |
